房州びわ

明治42年から皇室へ毎年献上している初夏の味覚「房州びわ」。房州びわは、肉厚たっぷりな大粒の果実でみずみずしさが特徴。びわは、あんず・みかんに次いでビタミンAを多く含む果実です。最近は、びわ葉・びわ種の商品も密かなブームを呼んでいます。

Boshu Biwa, biwa fruit from the Boshu area of the Boso Peninsula, have been presented to the Japanese Imperial Family every year since 1909.  Boshu loquats (from the Boshu region, where Tomiura is located) are defined by their large size just surpassing that of a chicken's egg, as well as their refreshing and juicy taste. With loquats, there is no need for additional ripening after picking—they mature fully on the branch and taste best if eaten immediately.

新鮮甜美的「房州枇杷」,作為獻給天皇的「獻上枇杷」之用。枇杷外皮呈漂亮的橘黃色,肉厚多汁,是初夏的美味。溫室枇杷在5月,露天種植的枇杷約6月左右會問市。枇杷不但味道鮮美,營養豐富,而且有很高的保健價值。中醫傳統認為,枇杷果有祛痰止咳、生津潤肺、清熱健胃之功效。而現代醫學更證明,枇杷果中含有豐富的維生素、苦杏仁甙和白蘆梨醇等防癌、抗癌物質。
