Fresh Toyama Firefly Squid (Hotaru Ika) 富山新鮮螢火蟲魷魚

Hotaru ika (Firefly Squid), is only 3 inches long, but packs a stunning feature in that small package. At the end of their tentacles are special organs called photophores that light up like glow sticks at a rave. In the Toyama Bay, in the central Japan Sea, the squid are found in fantastic abundance. 

在日本螢火蟲魷魚被認為是美味的食材,有很多方法可以享用它!  烤, 燉, 和天婦羅。還有這螢火魷也可以用來做經典的日式海鮮火鍋，吃起來味道也是非常鮮美的。

每年3月至6月,藍色的螢光點亮了日本富山灣的14公里海岸線。這種驚人的光並不是人造的;而是一種自然現象,是由成千上萬的頭足類動物「發光的螢火蟲魷魚」造成的生物性發光。然而這一季節也是這種生物的交配季節,晚上數以百萬計的螢火蟲魷魚來到水面進行受精並產蛋於富士灣。
